Are you celebrating Black History Month? Students will enjoy browsing the website and selecting a person from our Black History to read, watch videos, gather information, and write their own bio poem! (Or assign one of the biographies included in this bundle!)

Directions:

1. Click on the link or use the QR code to a Black History Biography site.

2. Read about that person and watch any videos on that page.

2. Take notes and find a quote from the person.

3. Fill in the bio poem template using the notes and quote.

4. A space is provided to illustrate or paste a picture of the person.

Learn about Black History Month from these three biographies over different time periods. Each passage comes with two different reading levels, perfect for differentiation. Along with lengthy passages, you will find a variety of comprehension questions for each biography. Then, there is a cumulative compare and contrast set of questions. These are available in PDF (Printable), PowerPoint, and GOOGLE.

3. DUKE ELLINGTON

You will find an original biography about the great Duke Ellington and two pages of questions. It is a great cold read for Black History Month or to teach text evidence (highlighting answers to the questions) and practice for standardized tests. There are 20 questions total (12 multiple-choice, a timeline, and two open-ended questions.

Bonus: There is also a vocabulary handout and fill-in-the-blanks formulated from the book Duke Ellington by Andrea Davis Pinkney.
