Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809-April 15, 1865) was the 16th president of the United States. In his lifetime, he also served as a lawyer, legislator, and anti-slavery figure. Lincoln led the Union states as president during the Civil War (1861-1865). Notable achievements in the life of Abraham Lincoln include his signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, which aided in the abolition of slavery, as well as his delivery of the Gettysburg Address, which is still one of the most famous speeches in American history. In April 1865, President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC.
