George Washington (1732-1799) was the first president of the United States. He also served as commander in chief for the Continental Army during the American Revolution and fought in the French and Indian War. In the Revolutionary War, Washington led the troops to victory against British rule, which allowed him to become a national hero. After the war, George Washington won the presidential election for the U.S. and served for two terms. Shortly after he served, he died at his plantation in Virginia, called Mount Vernon.
